The Department of Parks and Recreation reminds all visitors and citizens that firearms, alcohol, and fireworks are strictly prohibited at all times.

Despite the fact that Senate Bill 308 changed Code Section 16-11-126G to read “any person with a valid weapons carry license may carry a weapon in all parks, historic sites, or recreational areas” the city of Macon is holding hard to their old rules outlawing firearms at their parks.

As of August 20, 2013, you can find their statement on this policy here: http://www.cityofmacon.net/citydept-pr-parks-rental

There is a growing thread discussing this on GeorgiaPacking.org: http://georgiapacking.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=87825&start=0

Edit: 8/20/2013

Just noticed that the Calhoun City Council updated the city ordinance on carrying a handgun in parks, historical sites, and recreational areas… unlike Macon that seems to be stuck.
