Oppose BATFE

by Georgia Concealed Carry on February 19, 2015 · 0 comments

In a latest effort to slowly sneak up to their ultimate goal for a total ban on all firearms (like in England and Australia) the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) is now proposing to ban an entire class of common rifle ammunition.

In a recent alert from the NRA..

President Obama insisted that if Congress would not enact his gun control agenda, he would do so on his own, through executive action. Whatever else can be said of the president’s track record, he is doing his utmost to keep that promise. Having failed to enact a federal ban on the AR-15, America’s most popular rifle, he’s now using the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to do the next best thing. BATFE is now proposing to ban a whole class of common rifle ammunition used in that overwhelmingly popular firearm. Unfortunately, that’s just the beginning of BATFE’s latest move.

On Friday, we reported on breaking news that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) had issued a “framework” for when bullets which would otherwise be classified as “armor piercing” ammunition under federal law qualify for the law’s exemption for projectiles “primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes.”

Asking yourself what the big deal is about banning some armor piercing ammunition that you don’t own?  Check out this video from Colion Noir:

We can assure you that this type of ban won’t stop with just this type of ammunition.  Time and time again the government has proven that it is capable of looking at the long term goals and slowly work their way towards it.  Today it starts with a ban on this type of commonly used ammunition, but what’s next?  Don’t be fooled by the “common sense” statements you hear.  Yes it’s a great idea to protect our law enforcement against ammunition that can bypass their body armor.. but as Mr. Noir pointed out, most rifle ammunition will do that.  Body armor is primarily created to stop handgun ammunition.

So what can I do?

As the NRA pointed out, it’s very important that EVERYONE contact your local lawmakers and the BATFE and let them know you oppose this ban.
