As many of you may or may not know, the State of Georgia had numerous gun restrictions prior to 2008. Thanks to organizations like GeorgiaCarry.org, many of these restrictions have been lifted but there is still much to be done. If you aren’t a member of GeorgiaCarry.org, please consider joining.

Even if you have a Georgia Weapons Permit and are permitted to carry a firearm openly or concealed, one of the major issues we are faced with today is the uncertainty of where we can carry. These restrictions are not clearly listed anywhere.. which is why this website was created. Below is a list of specifically-defined locations prohibited by law:
Unauthorized Locations Where Firearms Are Prohibited
- In a government building
- In a courthouse
- In a place of worship
- In a state mental health facility
- In a bar, unless the owner of the bar permits the carrying of weapons by license holders
- On the premises of a nuclear power facility (punishment for carry is a misdemeanor, carry with intent to do bodily harm is a felony)
- Within 150 feet (46 m) of any polling place
- In any school building or on school grounds
Carrying a firearm, openly or concealed, on any private property is NOT against the law, however you MUST LEAVE if you are approached and asked to leave by security, the owner, or a person in charge of the establishment. Failure to leave can result in being arrested for criminal trespassing.
It is not against the law to ignore a “no guns” sign.
The above statement being said, we encourage you to respect the wishes of private property owners and help to maintain a positive and polite reputation for gun owners. The media makes great effort to depict us as obsessed, crazed people on the verge of mass violence. Let’s prove them wrong. Besides if a business owner doesn’t respect your right to bear arms, your money is probably best spent somewhere else.
